Buick GS 400 Customer Reviews

Works just fine. I’m using it on a restored ‘57 270 SBC, The newer coils just wouldn’t have looked right.

Buick GS 400 Guides

FAQs—Buick GS400

I'm driving a nine-year-old Buick GS400, and it's starting to give me trouble in terms of cooling. The car really runs hot even when I turn up the thermostat. I've tried observing it while running and even when parked outside the convenience store. I've even tried turning off other accessories in the hopes of getting cooler air from the AC but nothing happened. I'm well aware of how older cars turn problematic, but I just really can't let go of this car due to sentimental reasons. I hope someone could help me out.

There are a lot of reasons your AC is not as cold as it should be. It could be an issue with your compressor; a Freon leak; a clogged expansion hose or refrigerant charging hose; a defective blower motor, evaporator, or condenser; a low refrigerant; a malfunctioning switch or solenoid; or a simple case of mildew buildup. There are numerous possibilities, but the only way to diagnose the problem is to look under the hood and check out the components that run the AC. Having knowledge about AC repair is a plus, but if you are totally clueless about it, then you could always call for professional help.

After finally giving up on the commute, I got myself a third-hand silver gray Buick GS400. The previous owner has had a thing about accessorizing the vehicle, and I believe some bodywork has been done to the car. It was in very good shape when I got it, and the paint shimmered under the sunlight. Fast forward to a year after I acquired it, I began noticing how the paint on the right side of the hood would flake. I'm quite alarmed how the paint would peel off, especially after the car being drenched in rainwater. What should I do?

What starts out as a small paint flaking could spread quickly that might require you to shell out a large sum of money. Car repainting is actually expensive, mind you. The previous bodyworks done on your pre-loved vehicle could be the reason for this problem, especially if the car paint used was not compatible with the originally applied factory paint. Apart from that, frequent exposure to the sun, rain, and other environmental elements are reason enough to cause the paint to peel off. You can always DIY by sanding the paint down until such time the primer comes off and apply a few layers of paint to match the rest of it. Also, you have the option to bring your vehicle to a professional bodywork shop since it knows how to match the factory paint. Or, you could always take it to the dealer for a more accurate paint color.

My car's engine would often run poorly. It's as if it lacks power. Could it be a blown head gasket? What are the common symptoms to watch out for?

The head gasket seals the engine block and the cylinder head. Common symptoms that indicate a blown head gasket include coolant leak that is visible on your parking space, a white exhaust emanating from the exhaust pipe, coolant overflow, bubbles in the radiator, loss of coolant without any traces of leaks, a milky white oil, and of course, an overheating radiator. If you experience any of these, it is time to have your head gasket inspected. As always, it is better to attend to any of these issues at the earliest possible time than allow the problem to worsen.
