These 'intake/cat converters' certainly are a savior when compared to Nissan OEM parts, BUT you will need a very savy mechanic to install them. The main consideration is where the intake bolts to the block. The Evan Fischer exhaust pipe is welded to the connection plate. The bolt pattern to the block is so close to the pipe that the 'weld' itself inhibits bolting to the block, you will have to shim out the bolt to attach these. Next where the product connect to the resonator or continuination of the tail pipe there is a small circle of metal from the factory which will have to be cut off. The Evan Fischer product does not fit right up. WITH THAT BEING SAID, THIS PRODUCT IF YOU CAN INSTALL WILL SAVE YOU THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS VERSUS TAKING IT TO A NISSAN DEALER. I have been VERY PLEASED with the result...and love the money saved by using this EvanFischer Exhaust/Cat Converter alternative.

Nissan Catalytic Converter Articles

A large number of the general population is now aware of the problems of air pollution caused by growing use of private vehicle transportation. And due to public outcry, the state and federal authorities implemented many laws and regulations to minimize the amount of pollutants that these automobiles usually give off. Consequently, automobiles today are equipped with plethora of standard emissions control component and systems that work hand in hand to make vehicle emission less harmful. And these include catalytic converter.

The catalytic converter that comes in every gasoline-powered vehicle is an emission control device that makes sure that the exhaust coming out of the vehicle is safe from hazardous elements like hydrocarbons, oxides of nitrogen and other byproducts of the combustion process. This contraption that looks like the muffler is situated under the vehicle. Every gasoline-powered engine is equipped with a catalytic converter. In fact, there are vehicles that feature two catalytic converters.

The catalytic converter is specifically found in the exhaust line, between the exhaust manifold and the muffler. It employs chemicals that serve as catalyst, meaning, chemicals that cause a reaction among other chemicals without affecting itself. Hence, the chemicals contained in the catalytic converter triggers a reaction in the pollutants. These pollutants are then transformed from destructive gases to less harmless ones before they are released into the environment.

Recognized as one of the world's most famous and well-acclaimed car manufacturers, Nissan don't only produce high-performance and safe vehicles but environment-friendly units as well. As a result, Nissan models are equipped with high-performance Nissan catalytic converters. Crafted with superb quality materials and excellent workmanship, Nissan catalytic converters are sure to be in good working condition. And if after the long run, the Nissan catalytic converter is still functioning properly, you don't have any right to remove it. There's a law saying that it is illegal to remove or replace a catalytic converter that's working properly.

However, if your Nissan catalytic converter failed to function well, It is advisable to replace it with a high-flow unit that is less-restrictive so that backpressure will be lessened and the vehicle' mileage and performance will be enhanced. For replacement Nissan catalytic converter, the market has wide array of units readily available anytime you want it.

Nissan Catalytic Converter Buyer’s Guide

Summary

  • Immediate repairs can keep older models running in top condition. One component that may need replacement over time is your Nissan catalytic converter.
  • While searching for a replacement catalytic converter, you may have noticed that they get categorized as OEM or OE replacement.
  • OEM parts are components manufactured by Nissan and its parts suppliers. These are available at Nissan dealerships and authorized parts retailers.
  • OE replacement parts are catalytic converters built by parts companies with no official affiliation with Nissan. These are easier to source and cost less than their genuine counterparts.
  • An OE replacement catalytic converter is a great option if you’re looking for a replacement part that’s functionally equivalent to your old cat that won’t break the bank.

Nissan has come a long way since the automaker launched the Datsun in the 1959 Los Angeles Auto Show. The brand paved the way for other Asian car manufacturers by opening the first Japanese-owned production facility in North America in 1966. It even earned acclaim as the largest auto manufacturer in America in 2014.

While Nissan vehicles made their mark on style and reliability, older models need regular maintenance work and immediate repairs to keep running in top condition. One component that may need to get replaced over time is your Nissan catalytic converter.

Who manufactures genuine Nissan catalytic converters?

Nissan manufactures its own parts and assembles its vehicles in three production facilities based in Tennessee (Smyrna and Decherd) and Mississippi (Canton). The three locations combined can produce over 1 million vehicles in a single year. Nissan’s Mexico facility, meanwhile, manufactures parts and accessories for global distribution.

OEM vs. OE Replacement catalytic converters

While searching for a replacement catalytic converter, you may have noticed their categorization as OEM or OE replacement. Here’s how you can differentiate the two.

Original Equipment Manufacturer or OEM catalytic converters

OEM parts are components manufactured by Nissan and its parts suppliers. These are available from Nissan dealerships and authorized parts retailers. Because they carry the official Nissan brand, these catalytic converters will cost you more.

Original Equipment Replacement or aftermarket catalytic converters

OE replacement parts are catalytic converters built by parts companies with no official affiliation with Nissan. These are easier to source and cost less than their genuine counterparts.

Can OE replacement Nissan catalytic converters match OEM parts?

Catalytic converters make sure your vehicle does not emit toxic gases into the environment. Leaving a bad catalytic converter in your vehicle not only negatively affects your exhaust system, but can cause serious and costly damage to your engine.

An OE replacement catalytic converter is a great option if you’re looking for a replacement part that’s functionally equivalent to your old cat that won’t break the bank. In fact, aftermarket catalytic converter manufacturers have the advantage of reverse-engineering genuine parts and addressing issues in their design.

What is the cost of a Nissan catalytic converter?

The cost of a Nissan catalytic converter varies depending on your vehicle’s specific model year. OE replacement parts will typically cost you as low as $40. These are available individually, as part of an assembly, in sets of 2 to 4, or included in a kit. Seek the help of a trusted mechanic for proper installation.

Closer Look at Nissan Catalytic Converter

The Nissan catalytic converter is a component of the exhaust system, designed to reduce harmful chemicals in the vehicle exhaust emissions before they pass out of the tailpipe and into the environment. There are three types of harmful emissions produced by engine combustion, which

The Benefits and Advantages of a Nissan Catalytic Converter

Catalytic converters were made with the goal of quantity reductions and quality improvements of vehicular emissions. Indeed, your Nissan's catalytic converter came along as one of the more sophisticated and cutting-edge technologies for the modern era of automotive transportation. Its introduction required use of even more complicated engine control advancements that have allowed car makers to make engines with better fuel efficiency. As a result, fuel economy has become an important part of automobile development. Manufactures continue to strive to meet the more demanding statewide and nationwide regulations on carbon emissions and cost-efficient fuel usage.

Environment friendliness despite certain drawbacks

As more cars are being bought and used, smog has become a real problem among traffic-congested cities full of all sorts of modes of transportation. It has become government regulation as of late to ensure everyone still has fresh air to breathe. However, it has resulted in a few downsides since its introduction. Your engine is more likely to overheat from the additional need to burn fuel more completely. Your gas mileage is reduces as well because the catalyst slows down your emissions' circulation process for higher fuel consumption. Your horsepower is also reduced because your engine uses more energy in order to allow the converter to burn fuel elements in an efficient manner.

Unbeatable fuel efficiency and emissions reduction

In order to keep carbon emissions as low as possible, your fuel should be more efficiently burned, ensuring less fuel wastage and more fuel usage (despite the established detriments in horsepower and mileage for a more clean-and-green exhaust system). As fuel is burned, it produces many different gases that have an immediate impact on our environment (particularly when it comes to global warming and climate change). It reduces noxious gas production for nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons. Having the catalytic converter as part of your emission system is a necessary precaution when it comes to preventing environmental pollution.

Convenient installation and efficient catalytic conversion

The catalytic converter is installed between the muffler and the exhaust manifold, right in the middle of your Nissan's exhaust lines. It uses as a catalyst a mixture of different chemical agents. A catalyst is a chemical mixture that causes a reaction between other chemicals without it being affected itself. Your catalytic converter is mainly a means of converting pollutants from harmful gases to something that's more environmentally friendly. The emissions that are being belched by your tailpipe at the rear of your vehicle are a lot less noxious, poisonous, and climate-changing as a result of the chemical reaction that happens within your converter.

Durability and longevity in function

Meanwhile, the catalytic converter itself can be considered a catalyst itself because of its ability to maintain its function even though loads of harmful gases are injected into it every time you drive. This toughness comes from its container design and its stainless steel composition. As for the converter's interior, it's coated with chemicals such as palladium and aluminum oxide platinum. There are even cases wherein your catalytic converter also contains rhodium. Every one of these chemical agents will cause hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide to change into carbon dioxide and water vapors to reduce nitrogen oxide production. Just remember that you can't use leaded gas with engines designed for catalytic converters (lead pollutants can affect the catalyst negatively).
