As kids, we often see the mirror of our vehicles as play things. We would often play with it until it gets broken or misplace; and normally, our parents would get angry with us after that. Little did we know then that vehicle mirrors are very important vehicle parts. Little did we know then that the vehicle mirrors can protect us from accidents just as much as the seat belts or the air bags would.
As adults, however, we know now how important vehicle mirrors are for our vehicles. Without the various mirrors installed in our car, driving would be a lot more dangerous, and accidents would always be near, lurking at the sides or that the back of our vehicles. That's why vehicle mirrors are very important, and one shouldn't be advised to drive without them installed in their cars.
Because of their importance, a number of mirrors are usually installed in a single vehicle. The most commonly installed vehicle mirrors are the side mirrors and the rear-view mirror. The side mirrors are installed on the outer edges of the two A-posts on a car, both on the passenger and the driver side. Side mirrors allow you to take a quick glance at the back of your car without taking your eyes off the road. Rear-view mirrors basically allow you to do the same. The only difference is that the rear-view mirror is positioned centrally near the top of the windshield and provides a centered view of everything at the back of your car.
Buick vehicle's come completely equipped with both the side mirrors and the rear-view mirror. Also, Buick mirrors were designed to provide a clear view of everything behind the rear end of your Buick, keeping you away from any unlikely accident that may occur to you from the rear end of your car. For added safety though, you can install some custom and safety Buick mirrors that have added function, like towing mirrors for your Buick SUV's, automatic dimming rear-view mirrors, and wide-angle side and rear-view mirrors.
Closer Look at Buick Mirror
The Buick mirror is quite important for safe driving, helping to keep you aware of the movements of the surrounding traffic as you drive. Most vehicles are equipped with three mirrors, the rear view Buick mirror, and a side view Buick mirror on each front door. The rear view Buick mirror offers an easy view behind the vehicle. Mounted at the center top of the windshield, the rear view Buick mirror allows you to monitor the actions of the drivers traveling behind your vehicle safely, without the need to take your attention away from the road ahead. This is important for your safety, especially when you are preparing to turn or stop, allowing you to check for a safe distance between your vehicle and the traffic at your rear as you slow the vehicle. The side view Buick mirror offers a view to the side and rear of the vehicle, allowing more safety when changing lanes or leaving a parking spot. The view to the side allows you to monitor the lane of travel next to your vehicle, making it easier to pull out safely into that lane when it is clear of oncoming traffic. Buick Mirror Maintenance Made Easy
Behind the rear wheel, your line of vision is limited. You can't easily spot the rear and every corner or all sides of the vehicle. Good things is, the side and rearview mirrors are there to help you see through these blind spots, so you can drive more safely and avoid accidents on the road. These mirrors, however, can get foggy and scratched. And when they do, they won't be as clear as they ought to be. Some parts of the mirror assembly may also break over time, making it less convenient for you to use the mirror. If you want your Buick mirror to stay clear and easy to use, here are some practical tips for maintenance and care:
- Take time to clean the mirror.
Some may simply use car soap and water to clean the mirror. But a specially formulated glass cleaner can work better. You also have the option to use a mixture of ammonia and water. Use a lint-free or non-abrasive cloth every time you clean the mirror to prevent scratches and lines. Remove the stuck dirt and dust. If you fail to clean the mirror, the gathered dust and grime may become harder to remove after some time.
- Fix the light scratches on the mirror.
Light scratches on the mirror can be removed using regular white toothpaste or jewelers rouge. Just spread a small amount of regular white toothpaste or jewelers rouge on scratches. You just have to rub this in softly and buff the scratched area with a soft cloth. Remember to wipe off the residual paste or rouge. If the scratches are still visible, repeat the steps for better results. This trick will work only on light scratches. Other than jewelers rouge and regular white toothpaste, you can also try other home-made remedies such as a mixture of one-part dry mustard and one-part white vinegar or a thin coat of nail polish. Soft cloth may be used for buffing, although some would use Dremel or a similar rotating tool. If the scratches run too deep or are too big, it would be better to just replace the glass on the mirror assembly.
- Remove the fog on the mirror.
If the mirror appears cloudy, you can remove the fog by using shaving cream or car wax. Use a soft towel to spread a generous amount of cream starting at the middle of the mirror. For the wax, this must be applied in small amount and must be rubbed onto the surface in circular motion. To prevent the glass of the mirror from becoming cloudy, you have to clean and wipe it dry from time to time. If the fog can't be removed, just replace the glass of the mirror.
- Repair the mirror assembly.
You don't always have to replace the entire thing whenever your power mirror fails to work. You can replace just the glass and not the mirror housing, although there are cases when it would be best to replace the whole assembly. If the automated side mirrors can't be adjusted easily or the heating element is no longer working, have the mirror assembly checked for faulty wiring or a broken electrical connection or part.
