Nissan NX Air Conditioner Maintenance Tips
The Nissan NX is every inch a cool car with its powerful suspension, superior handling, large wheels and tires, rear spoiler, low ride height, and low center of gravity. It is indeed cool on the outside! But is it also cool on the inside? Definitely not if your air conditioner is defective. Before you even get to that point (We hope you don't!), you must be armed with proper knowledge about maintaining the air conditioning system of your NX. Comfort and riding experience are at stake here, so never take your AC for granted.
- Keep the AC parts well-lubricated.
At least every week, switch on your air conditioner and let it run for a few minutes regardless of the weather or temperature inside the car. Doing so will keep the adequate lubrication of the valves, pumps, and hoses within the AC system.
- Have your Nissan NX owner's manual ready.
Do not ever think of going to the mechanic shop unprepared before having your car's AC serviced. Bring your owner's manual; you will definitely need it.
- Have your AC serviced at least every year.
Get an AC service before the beginning of the summer months, so you will not suffer from AC woes when summer starts. Have the mechanic check the refrigerant level. If needed, the AC system has to be re-gased.
Here's a tip to avoid being scammed by the mechanic shop when you bring your car to it for AC servicing: know what kinds of services are usually included in the AC serving package. Typically, the following are performed by qualified mechanics: checking of hoses and air vents, drive belt and pulley adjustment, checking of how the thermostats and valves work, inspection and replacement (if necessary) of receiver drier or filter, replacement of operating gas, cleaning the condenser fins, leak test of AC parts, and sanitation of the AC system. If many of these are not included in the service package and the mechanic charges you a hefty bill, you can look for another shop that can offer a more comprehensive package at a reasonable rate.
- Get rid of fungi and bacteria in your AC system.
This tip may not be related to air-conditioning maintenance itself, but it is nonetheless important in protecting yourself and your passengers, especially those with allergies or asthma. The car AC system is an ideal place for breeding fungi and bacteria. Special sanitizing treatments for car AC systems are recommended to eliminate these contaminants. The treatments can also eliminate nasty smell that may come from the AC vents.
- Clean or change your AC air filter regularly.
Dirt buildup on your AC system's air filter is bad for your vehicle's ride comfort. It blocks the passage for air and will cause erratic AC operation. Thus, checking your AC's air filter is essential to determine if it needs cleaning or not. Cleaning the air filter involves a few simple steps: just remove it, clean with mild detergent and water, let it dry, and mount it back. If the filter is totally clogged, get rid of it as soon as possible and replace it.
