FAQs—Nissan Pulsar NX
How does an engine oil system cleaner work? Is it effective? When should it be used?
An oil system cleaner is designed to pre-clean the engine surfaces. Through this cleaner, oil may perform well and achieve optimum performance. It's also used for added protection for the various engine parts aside from improving lubrication. Also among the benefits of using this cleaner is that it can help restore engine compression. The cleaner helps remove sludge, together with varnishes and carbon deposits. This system cleaner is recommended for use every 60,000 kilometers or even sooner if needed. The cleaner should be applied prior to changing oil and replacing the oil filter. While the engine is still warm, add the cleaner into the oil crankcase. Let the engine idle for about 15 minutes after this.
How often should the brake service be done on my Nissan Pulsar NX?
This depends on various factors, including your driving habits, the road condition, the driving situation, and the type of brake system. A good benchmark, however, could be every 40,000 to 50,000 kms. This should serve just as a guide. Brake inspection should be done regularly to monitor the brakes' condition, especially the brake pads and rotors. Don't wait till the brake system already needs an overhaul. Diagnose possible brake problems early on and always be up to date with the needed car maintenance.
I've never really driven my Nissan Pulsar out of the city and into the highways. They say I should take it on a long drive on the freeway and highway to keep the engine clean. Is there any truth to this? Or is this simply a myth?
This isn't a baseless theory. Driving your vehicle on a highway or on longer stretches of road and at higher speeds can help keep the engine clean by burning up the carbon, which comes from burned air and fuel and blowing it out through the exhaust. If the engine doesn't get warm enough, as with the case of short-distance city driving, the carbon will get stuck with the engine and can spread throughout. This is why some would advise you to take the vehicle on a highway from time to time, so that the carbon can be released as the engine heats up.
How can I tell if my Pulsar NX already requires new tires? I can't just tell by the way the tires look.
Check those tread wear indicators or wear bars. When these bars, which appear like narrow strips of rubber across, are already visible, you have to replace your tires. If there are 3 or more tread wear indicators around the tires, then you it's time for you to go buy a new set. Other cues include the cord or fabric already showing through the rubber as well as cuts in tread or cracks. Bulges or split in tires as well as punctures and damage that can no longer be repaired mean that you should be shopping for new tires right away.
