Nissan Xterra Guides

There are a lot of words that can be used to describe the Nissan Xterra, but three words best describe it: Powerful, Versatile, and Functional. The Nissan Xterra is powerful, showcasing performance fitted for a genuine off-road vehicle. The Nissan Xterra is also versatile, with a lot of space to spare for carrying cargo and passengers alike. Last, the Nissan Xterra is full of functionality, with its various components working well with each other to give it the performance it needs. But this compact SUV from Nissan could have not been described as such if it was not equipped with high quality Nissan Xterra parts.

The powerful performance of the Nissan Xterra is largely attributed to its high quality and well designed drivetrain and powertrain components. At the heart of every Xterra is a 265 hp, 4.0-liter V6 engine that outputs 284 lb-ft of torque. This power generated by the engine is distributed by either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic transmission. The entire body of the Nissan Xterra stands on the F-Alpha platform including a ladder frame, made from lightweight yet rigid steel and designed to let the suspension absorb the bumps during off-road conditions.

On the exterior side, the Nissan Xterra is equipped with various components that add to its functionality. Among these components are bumper steps, step rails, roof rack and roof rack accessories that do a great help in managing your cargo and assists in accessing the vehicle's interiors. And while one can not fail to notice the aggressive and unique styling vehicle, this styling is actually made to make the vehicle more suited for off-road conditions. The vehicle's non-painted bumpers, body side moldings, skid plates, and other protective accessories protects it from off-road damages like scratch and bruises while giving it a genuine off-road look.
Once inside the Nissan Xterra, you can immediately sense the versatility that the vehicle has. Interior features of the Nissan Xterra includes the Utili-track Cargo Channel System, fold-flat front passenger seats, fold-flat rear seats, storage equipments and more. All these features allow your vehicle to shift from a passenger vehicle to a cargo vehicle, and vise versa, quickly. Aside from these, there are also the regular amenities like CD changers, audio system, trip computer and protective gears that make driving and traveling safer and more comfortable.

With all these high quality parts and equipments, one can't think of anything more to add to the Nissan Xterra. Unfortunately, each and every part of your Nissan Xterra is also subject to wear and tear, just as the parts of other vehicles are. But each time any Nissan Xterra part needs to be replaced in your vehicle, be sure to equip it only with high quality and high performance replacement Nissan Xterra parts. There are a lot of genuine Nissan Xterra parts as well as high quality aftermarket Nissan Xterra parts that you can use for this matter.

FAQs—Nissan Xterra

During cold season, I'm having a headache with the heater of my Nissan Xterra. When my vehicle is in idle, it blows cold air. When I'm driving, it starts heating up. Is this a coolant leak problem?

There could be several reasons why the heater is not working properly, one of which is a coolant leak. Check if your coolant level dropped; if it did, then it might be the root cause. Low coolant flow when your vehicle is idle could affect how the heater works. Meanwhile, you might also want to check the fuses if they are still intact. A blown fuse can also cause this heating problem. Replace a blown fuse right away and check if the problem recurs.

My ‘Check Engine' light is on, and I have been hearing a strange sound coming from the engine. What could possibly be the problem?

This is a common issue for this particular Nissan model, and owners say that this is oftentimes due to its timing belt (or timing chain). Inspect your engine, and if there are no leaks in the evaporative emission control, then the problem could be due to a stretched or broken timing belt. You should replace it immediately to avoid further damage to your engine.

I've been experiencing loss of power with my Xterra, and upon checking, I encountered the P0328 and P0420 code problems. What do they mean?

The P0328 code is caused by a faulty knock sensor. Your knock sensor might have experienced a short circuit, or there is a poor electrical connection. Do not panic, as it will not cause problems with your engine performance, but it should be replaced immediately.

On the other hand, the P0420 code is detected when the three-way catalytic converter is not working properly. Other causes include leaks in the intake air or fuel injector, as well as faulty spark plugs. While this problem can be sometimes solved by replacing the oxygen sensors, oftentimes, it requires replacing the catalytic converter. This is a common problem with the Xterra and other Nissan models.

The transmission of my eight-year-old Xterra has been failing. Should I be concerned?

Transmission failure is not only a common problem for the Xterra, but to Nissan cars in general. This is usually caused by a cracked radiator that leaks coolant. When the coolant mixes with the transmission fluid, then that is a formula for disaster. Given that your Xterra is already eight years old, it's about time to replace your radiator. You might also need to rebuild your transmission, if necessary. Once replaced, make it a habit to flush out the coolant system regularly to maximize the lifespan of your radiator.

Recently, my fuel consumption has been very high. How can I improve my Nissan Xterra's fuel economy?

If you've been going off-road in the past days or weeks, then don't be surprised if your fuel consumption suddenly peaks. Minimize the use of four-wheel drive, and you will save at least 20 percent of gas. You might want to also use cruise control when driving, which can help improve your mileage.

Nissan Xterra: Crossing Boundaries, Redefining Compact SUVs

Marketed as everything that a car owner needs, the Xterra has been inspiring car manufacturers and SUV enthusiasts around the world since 2000. Though it was not Nissan's first line of compact SUVs, this vehicle still managed to make a name for itself through its two generations of innovative style and superior performance.

2000-2001: XE, SE, and base XE

When the Nissan Xterra was introduced in 2000, it was sold in three trim levels: base XE, luxury SE, and XE. The luxury SE trim was considered to be the premium version of the Xterra. It had an "SE" badged at its back, and it was equipped with a flip-up sunroof. On the other hand, the base XE and XE were differentiated by their engines and standard features. The base XE was powered by a KA24DE I4 engine that was coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission, while the XE was backed by a 3.3-L, VG33E V6 engine and came with either a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. In terms of features, the XE featured side-step rails, carpeted floor mats, and a roof rack, while the base version did not. Despite the differences, the Xterra still managed to bag various awards such as Motor Trend's Sport Utility of the Year and North American Truck of the Year.

2002-2004: First redesign

Two years after it was launched, the Xterra underwent its first redesign. Its 4-speaker, 6-disc, AM/FM/CD audio system was upgraded to a 300W, 6-speaker, AM/FM/CD system that came with an 8-inch subwoofer. Engine-wise, the redesigned Xterra was available with either a supercharged VG33ER engine that could produce as much as 210 horsepower and 246 pound-feet of torque or an improved 3.3-L, VG33E, V6 engine that could generate 180 horsepower. In terms of body style, this redesigned model featured a new dash, center console, tire pressure monitoring system, and side-curtain airbags.

2005-present: F-Alpha platform

For the 2005 model year, Nissan once again restyled the Xterra under the F-Alpha platform. Compared to its predecessor, the '05 model was larger because of its rear differential locker. Its engine was also upgraded to a 4.0-L, VQ40DE engine that could generate 265 horsepower. Unfortunately, in 2008, production of the Xterra stopped in Mexico because of the introduction of the Rogue line. Nonetheless, Nissan continued its production in other countries. At present, the Xterra has various safety features, a roof rack, under-floor cargo storage, and crossbars. It also has an estimated MPG rating of 15 in cities and 22 in highways.
