Audi recently unveiled its plans to launch 20 fully electric cars by 2025, and part of the lineup could be the brand’s flagship sedan, the Audi A8.
Bram Schot, Audi AG Chairman of the Board of Management, recently announced that they are considering building a fully electric version of the next-generation Audi A8 during the company’s Annual General Meeting.
“The next generation of the Audi A8 might well be all-electric. That has bot been decided yet, but I can well imagine it,” he said. “We are thinking about revolutionizing the top-end class with a completely new concept for the A8,” Schot added.
The current version of the A8 was only released last year, which means the next-generation likely won’t be introduced until around the middle of the next decade.
Before the full electrification of the flagship sedan, Audi will launch the production version if the E-Tron GT Concept in 2020. According to Schot, the E-Tron GT will be part of the new range of electric cars the brand will release in the next few years. The lineup will include a total of 30 new electrified models, 20 of which will be fully electronic, including the E-Tron and the E-Tron Sportback.
Aside from the change in the Audi A8 and the launch of a new lineup of fully electric cars, the German automaker also announced that it will be launching seven new variants of SUV this year, as well as an ultra-luxurious version of the Audi A8 that would rival the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class.
The luxury carmaker is also set to end production of the Audi TT “in a few years”. It will be replaced with an electric within the same price range, Schot said.
