Have you ever wondered where your car was built? Some models contain parts built outside the US. Other cars are completely manufactured in other countries and shipped here. Since foreign products will cost more in the future, it’s a good idea to identify which vehicles count as non-American cars.
Let’s look at the light-duty vehicles on the American car market today. Here’s a non-exhaustive list of 2025 models that aren’t made in the USA:
General Motors Corporation is one of the Big Three, the trio of the largest US domestic car manufacturers. While it’s an American company, GM builds parts and entire units of the GMC Sierra 1500 in American, Canadian, and Mexican car factories.
The GM San Luis Potosí factory in Mexico produces the GMC Terrain crossover SUV.
Toyota is one of Japan’s leading automotive manufacturers. It builds the following models in Japanese car factories:
While a Japanese company, Toyota also operates factories in other countries. It has plants in Asia, Europe, North and South America, and Africa.
The Toyota RAV4 compact crossover is built in Canada and Japan. The RAV4’s Hybrid version is also produced in Toyota’s American car factories. Those same American plants build the Toyota Corolla compact car like the Japanese facilities. Finally, the Toyota Supra sports car is built in Austria.
In addition to its American car factories, Ford operates plants in other countries, such as Canada and Mexico. These facilities produce various parts and models that get shipped to the US.

Created by the merger between Italian-American company Fiat Chrysler and French car maker Peugeot, Stellantis inherited Chrysler’s place among the Big Three. It also owns other brand names like Alfa Romeo, Citroën, Dodge, DS, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Ram Trucks, and Vauxhall.

The East London factory in South Africa produces the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. In Hungary, the Kecskemét factory builds the Mercedes-Benz CLA and EQB.
The Graz factory in Austria produces the Mercedes-Benz G-class. Finally, MB Mexico produces the Mercedes-Benz GLB.
